Both practices share the carrying constraint, but not the trade-off. On a trek, weight limits the quantity carried. On a bike, it first limits daily distance: one bag too many is imperceptible at a standstill, and unmistakable after 1,200 metres of climbing.
Second difference, this one in your favour: a bike produces energy while rolling. A hub dynamo turns the route itself into a charging source — something no hiker can do. So the bike score has to arbitrate a pairing the trek ignores: mass carried against production underway.
0–40 — Lighten or shorten
The load or the daily distance exceeds what the real autonomy can sustain. Revise the route or the packing list before leaving.
40–70 — Targeted adjustments
Departure feasible with an action list: filtration, an extra powerbank or a dynamo, stages recut around water points.
70–95 — Ready to ride
Autonomy consistent with the track. Re-score if the route stretches or the season changes.
The powerbank wins on short trips: nothing to install, and the weight stays low as long as the number of recharges stays limited. The dynamo wins as soon as the trip runs into weeks or crosses areas without reliable sockets — it produces as long as the wheel turns, including in rain, where solar collapses. The tipping point depends on real consumption, not on a general rule.
The 4 axes still hold, but the energy axis changes nature: the propulsion battery becomes the dominant item and makes the route dependent on charging points. Socket availability then structures the track, not water or food.
As soon as the route goes beyond a there-and-back day: two days of full autonomy are enough for the gaps to show. Below that, a classic checklist stays proportionate.
